Best screenwriting advice ... Ever!
By Kevin Glynn
A very well written book. Pulls no punches in setting out what works and what doesn't in short film. The harsh reality of writing and making short films oozes from every page straight from the mouth of an Oscar accredited film festival selection panel member and juror. The `four minute rule' and advice on having a killer opening is a wakeup call to every filmmaker. You must begin fast and hook the audience in those vital first few minutes or you're history. So true. Brutally true. Likewise the chapter on clichés and stereotypes is a must read. I have returned to this book again and again to 'ground & focus' my screenwriting process. It is both a mentor and a technical bible and takes the place on my shelf which is easiest to reach as I construct my next screenplay. Buy this book before you begin to write, it will make the process so much easier and make the result so much better.

Highly recommended
By L McIntosh
Essential reading for every writer of screenplays, short or long. Practical and straight to the point. I found the interviews with the writers particularly fascinating as they explained how they wrote their scripts, found and developed their ideas and thought through the filmmaking and storytelling process. All were award winners. Two were runners up for the live action short film Oscar so they know what they're talking about. It's rare to find actual original short screenplays published that you can study and learn from. This book has three. Read it, study it and absorb it. You can't fail to write a better screenplay after learning from this

Essential reading for short film makers!
By Georgie
An eye opener. Pulls no punches in explaining why so many short films fail to make the grade at festivals. They lack an interesting, original or great idea and a properly developed screenplay and story. Story is king Patrick Nash argues and an experienced writer's involvement essential in making a winning short. I loved the chapters on clichés and stereotypes (brutally honest), dialogue, emotion, finding a story to tell, the interviews with the three writers of the short screenplays at the back of the book and so much more. There's just so much to like about this book, clear, straightforward, plain spoken and easy to read, straight to the point with an abundance of essential advice.
