... of my all time favorites and I was not disappointed with this book either

Graham has always been one of my all time favorites and I was not disappointed with this book either. Though I'd not read previous books that brought Danni and Quinn together initially, it didn't hamper the story. Loved the suspense of the setting with the Swamps of Louisiana. So much flavor to be had there. I wasn't surprised about Novak being a bad guy, but I was clueless to the end about the cop Beauchamp. Just goes to show that surprises can be an eye opener, and the way Danni was able to tie in all the varibles was stellar work.

One of The Best In The Series!

I received a ARC of this book in exchange for a honest review.
First of all let me just say I am a huge fan of Heather's work and I was so excited to see that she was bringing us a 1,001 Dark Nights novella! This story is one of my favorites in the series. I am infamous for loving stories set in New Orleans (like seriously, I hunt these books down and load up my eReader just to see where the story will take us in this amazingly beautiful city. And I am never disappointed. ) So not only do we have my favorite story setting in the whole world but we have a deliciously creepy storyline. Add in a few steamy times and you have the recipe for a excellent afternoon escapism read.

I was pleasantly surprised about the depth of the historical aspect that we see in the First chapter telling about the legends and the historical aspect and that makes it clear (for those who didn't read the foreword anyway) that NOLA is one of Heather's favorite places and she wants people to see the appeal of the place as more than just a major party destination. Her descriptive writing style allows us to become fully immersed in the story and experience all the sights and feel the humid breeze that comes off the bayou at night. Smell the benigets and coffee brewing in a restaruant. Its like a mini vacation because you do experience it all.

Spooky Little Novella

One of the things that I love most about the 1001 Dark Nights line of novellas is that they give you a chance to sample an authors work that you might not have ever dared to pick up and try before. BLOOD ON THE BAYOU did just that for me. I’ve been on a big romantic suspense kick lately so this book really hit the spot for me.

I loved the creepy atmospheric setting that was created and so richly painted. Even though I’ve never been to Louisiana, I felt like I was down there with the people. The lore, history, and different cultures and practices that were described made the book and the characters that much more intriguing. There was a slow build to the mystery and suspense part of the novel that I really enjoyed.

This book has a supernatural element to it, which I usually don’t come across in the books that I read every day. Especially with romantic suspense. This novella was a quick and short introduction into this world that Heather Graham has created and I loved every single minute of it. I will definitely be adding the other books in this series to my TBR.

Really good CentOS book!

The description of this book is “Become an efficient CentOS administrator by acquiring real-world knowledge of system setup and configuration” and the author, Andrew Mallett, has put together quite a collection of information in there to help you do just that.
Probably worth mentioning here is that this book is obviously designed for someone not only familiar with Linux in general, but also comfortable eough with CentOS to dispatch with the usual obligatory chapters dealing with installation, etc.. Yes, this information is surely aimed for someone who is. or has designs for being a Systems Administrator. As it happens, I am “one of those guys” so I’ll give you my thoughts on how well he did.

One of the interesting things about Linux is there are so many ways to do things and so many areas of focus. This means that this area of information that a system Administrator should know is pretty expansive and what *I* think a System Administrator should be an expert in is not necessarily what someone else may think. Well, up to a point. There are some real basics in there as well. One of those is using vi or vim and noodling around on the command line, and this is right where Mallett heads for in the beginning of the book and rightly so.

After running through some great tips you start to dive into some deep subject matter on Grub, filesystems, processes (all really important stuff). Yum (package management) and managing users are also important standards that are covered well, and then you start diverging a bit from what I would consider “must know” information into, really, the more interesting stuff of the book. You walk through LDAP auth, Nginx web servers and puppet configuration management. While those may not be essentials for your systems, it sure is nice to at least have a basic understanding, and the information here on them can get you up and running. And then lastly we go back into the last topic, security, which is also a “must know”.

I quite liked this book, especially the portion on Nginx, which I had not played with before. It was good information, easy to read and use and the examples worked. I also noted that much unlike some other similar books I have reviewed, this book is not so voluminous as to make it impractical to read through in an afternoon or so and you can do so and come away immediately with some practical and usable information. Again, the book “CentOS System Administration Essentials” by Andrew Mallett, is available from Packt Publishing for under $25 and is well worth it for all you budding (and maybe not so budding) System Administrators out there.

Excellent book to improve your Linux skill

I already knew the author of this book by his popular website that makes a lot of training about Linux (and not only).
Since I'm not an expert about Linux and I would like to know more, I read many books on the subject and I must say this is one of the most successful, even for how it reconciles theory and practice.
I found it very useful especially the chapters about the file-system, since I don't know Btrfs and security (finally there I realized something about SELinux...). Very useful also the final chapter in which the author exposes a series of best practices to be applied in sysadmin's everyday activity.
I recommend this book to anyone who has basic knowledge of Linux (and about CentOS in particular) and wants its expertise about it to go a step ahead.

Essential Reading

This is definitely one of the better Linux books I've read. Covers the Essentials really really well, the goal of the author is comprehension of the essential concepts, with the occasional side of cool hacks. Succeeds in gifting the serious student with confidence that would have been missing otherwise. Great resource and just the right length for me.

This is a beautiful book and highly recommended to practitioners of Hung Gar. It's about 250 pages long, beautifully bound and illustrated (many in full color) and well worth the $50 asking price. Contents are as follows:

Preface/Foreword/Introduction (~10 pages of background on Lam Cho and the book)
Part one: Background and History (~50 pages tracking the history of Hung Gar)
Part two: Techniques and Training (~30 pages of general hung gar techniques; ~90 page detailed manual on the entire gung gee form; ~30 pages of two man drills and applications using techniques from gung gee -- all in great detail and well illustrated)
Part three: Memories of Master Lam Cho (~25 pages of memorials for Master Lam Cho from friends, family and students)

A very beautifully made and detailed book

A very beautifully made and detailed book, certainly the best I've seen on Gung Gee. Perhaps a bit too much of it is dedicated to tributes and memorials. I wish that the pages describing the form itself had some more detail on applications... but this is true of pretty much every CMA book I've ever seen. The pictures here, though, are more detailed and clear, and go to lengths to show details of transitions that are missing in other books.

Awesome! In-depth, and engaging, top class professional. I have been studying martial arts since my childhood years, and a manual like this only comes along once in a great while.
