Beverly M. Kienzle is the John H. Morison Professor of the Practice in Latin and Romance Languages and lecturer on medieval Christianity at Harvard Divinity School. Best commonly available text for intermediate citizenship students

I have taught citizenship classes in New Jersey for about 4 years and have used this text for the last 18 months. I own and have used three other books. Voices of Freedom is not only the best book for the task, it's easily the best bang for the buck.

Pros: Clear text; lots of pictures, maps and charts; good homework and class drills; many suggestions for group exercises; excellent exposition chart of the full content and teaching goals of the book; preface is essentially a teaching guide; 100 questions and answers in English and Spanish; lengthy (maybe a little too lengthy) vocabulary lists; plenty of ESL content in addition to history and civics; 3 (count them, 3!) CDs with the entire text read aloud so students can either read along or reinforce the materials and sounds while driving, etc.; very nice writing practice page; scripts for practice interviews.

Cons: much of the content is slanted towards liberal ideology (if you share that slant than I guess it's a pro); geared towards intermediate ESL learners - beginners will need a lot of supplementary material; inconsistent on N-400 based content, which is, after all, the overwhelming challenge of the actual interview.

I've ordered this text from Amazon at least ten times, maybe 40-50 books total, and have paid either twenty-four, twenty-eight or twenty-one dollars each. Go figure. A great book at any of those prices.

Can I just say how much I LOVE this book!!!

For the teacher who wants to teach both English and Civics/ American history/ geography...this is your best friend! I absolutely love it because it provides a context for the English language, it has updated 2013 information of the American government and presidency and it provides targeted English language in the beginning of the chapter that is used throughout and culminates in a fill in the blank example excerpt of a citizenship interview in which they must use the info they learned in the chapter and the English grammar to fill in the conversation with the correct info about America and then practice with a partner asking and answering questions...this is a fantastic text!

I have 30 years of curriculum design and teaching children and adult English language learners . This is a good basic text that with the supplemental materials provided at the governmental site, it makes a good curriculum

Comprehensive Easy Guide Worth reading - highly recommend buying

I thoroughly enjoyed this book. The book covered everything from basic information on how Google works to taking you on a journey through the technical steps of marketing a business in the search results. I finished this book in less than 24 hours and wrote a lot of notes and highlighted several important factors to revisit. After finishing the book, I immediately worked with my Web Site Developer on the results to improve my business. I have already started utilizing many of the pointers I picked up in the book and already see results in less than a week. I was appreciative of the external resources and specific techniques I can put to use. The book is practical and easy to understand - it covers everything
for beginners to advanced levels. Highly recommend purchasing this book - you won't be disappointed.

Powerful handbook for any business owner or marketer to have!

I did a lot of research before finally settling on this book. It's thoroughly researched and well put together. The author makes complicated concepts easy to understand. He also touches on advanced tactics so experienced readers will walk away with at least a handful of new tactics. The author does this while making it fun, it feels like you have a good friend explaining the whole process.

This is a powerful resource not just on SEO but for growing a business. It covers all the essential information on SEO, also covers local marketing and even pay-per-click campaigns. Some areas are covered, but looks like this was on purpose, everything is easy to understand and it doesn't make you fall asleep like reading an encyclopedia.

My only complaint, I would have liked more information in the section about analytics. It covers general information on this, I would have liked more detail on knowing where to pay attention after improving my rankings and traffic.

I've seen lots of businesses do well with SEO and I've seen lots of businesses struggle because they don't understand SEO and neither does their SEO guy, so I think it's important to get the right knowledge. Anyone with this guide on their desk will inevitably find it an essential resource they will refer to on a weekly or maybe even daily basis. Highly recommend this book to anyone that wants the best all-round-guide on SEO and grow their business.

SEO 2016: Search Engine Optimization at its Best

Search engine optimization is demystified and finally made simple and easy to understand in this book. It has a lot of information from core essentials to advanced strategies. It does get technical in some areas, but the author balances this out with his conversational style. It covers the latest RankBrain, Mobile and Penguin updates and I couldn't find this information in other books, so I give the author bonus points for covering this new information.

About the Author
Hammond Innes (1913-1998) was a compulsive writer and traveller. He wrote over 30 books - thrillers with sturdy, plain-speaking British heroes at the centre; ordinary men caught up in impossible events. Innes journeyed all over the world, working as a journalist, whaler, soldier, but primarily sailing the high seas and racing in his yacht the Mary Deare. He turned all of his adventures into stories, and many of them were bestsellers.

Surprisingly Entertaining

I picked up a used copy of this book on a chance at a 2nd-hand store--lucky! It turned out to be an engaging read and quite entertaining. The writing is very taut and well-crafted. The author is clearly in control of the plot development and characterization is excellent. The detail offered about ships--both sailing and steaming--is incredible and spang on accurate. The story unfolds at a good pace with enough texture to be completely credible yet rapidly enough to be engaging.

The novel opens with a prolonged nautical action sequence, then moves into a detailed court proceeding, and concludes with a few surprise twists and a nautical chase scene. Believable, enjoyable, and very well-written.

OutstandingAdventure Storry, Expert writing, Movie Potential

My wife picked up this book in a used bookstore in Seward,Alaska, while on a bike trip. We were looking for a cheep read and were shocked that we had bumbled onto a timeless classic. Half way through my wife, who is a professor and creative writer herself, got so exhited about the storry that she cut the book in half so that I could start on the beginning half of the book. The storry is outstanding (and I generally am not a fan of maritime themes), the writing rivals the great authors of the century, and the research is flawless. A must read. It is the second best book that I have ever read, behind "To Whome the Bell tolls"....this one is a lot less depressing.

for easy sailing fiction, this is as good as it gets!

Classic! Like several other reviewers, I just stumbled on an ancient paperback copy of this in a used bookstore, and what a little treasure it is! hard to believe that in 1956 you could pick this book up for just 35 cents, the same book I just bought for 2.50 (though at a mere 4.7% compound interest I guess it's just as well I bought it now, and not in 1956). I'm so happy to see it's still available; keep your expectations low and this is a fast-moving, cleanly written little sailing adventure that stands the test of time; absolutely perfect vacation, travel, or relaxing read. If you're looking for more: I still have not read the highly touted classic `Riddle of the Sands' but I imagine it's very similar.
